F1 Olive Egger Chicks (FEMALE)

Description

Spring ’23 Crosshatch First Generation (F1) Olive Egger Hatching Eggs are borne of a classic sex-linked cross— Cream Legbar hens under a Black Copper Marans male. Females will carry one deep brown gene from the Marans and one blue gene from the Legbar. As a first generation cross, our F1 Olive Egger females are guaranteed to produce blue egg shells with dark brown pigmentation on top— the ideal Olive Egger!

Because the male (Black Copper Marans) is a solid color base genetically, it can be crossed with a Legbar which is a gold barred genetic base, leading to sex-linked offspring that can be sexed upon hatch with reasonable certainty. Males will have a spot on their head at hatch.

Expect a rich olive color and speckles in a majority of the eggs. Females will be dainty in size, closer to Legbar than Marans in body type, and most will be majority black in feathering with a crest (or mohawk) behind a small, straight comb.
