Description

Our 2026 Forest Floor Olive Egger mix is a blend of every olive egger we have on property, it’s like taking a walk along the whole spectrum of grass, moss, olives, stone, and bark. Every half dozen is different, but you’ll receive two of each of the following for a half dozen plus two extras offering:

Light to Medium Olive: F1 Ermine/Paint Olives (2)

F1 olives are a first generation cross between Ameraucana and Marans. In this pairing, dominate white and black result in paint coloring— birds will look like ermine ameraucana but with feathered legs.

Grass, Bright Moss, Light Olive: Later Generation OE x OE Olives (2)
These olive egger to olive egger pairings bring lots of different plumages, but we have a lot of blue in the pens this year. Birds can have crests and/or muffs and beards.

Mid Olive, Deep Olive, Bark, Dark Soil: Backcross to Marans (BC2, BC3) (2)

Backcrossing is a breeding strategy that condenses traits, and Marans have lots of traits we like to double down on! Birds will deposit more pigment on their eggshells in this cross, expect darker olives to bark. They can be really dark in the early spring! Backcross birds tend toward black with copper highlights that can range from copper collars to copper breasts.

Bright Olive, Blue Grass, Teal: Backcross to Blue (2)

Our backcrossed to blue pairings are mid to deep tone olives (either backcrosses or later gen olives) put back under a male that is homozygous for the blue egg shell gene. Lots of things can happen in these pairings, but the idea is to reassert the blue egg shell under a rich pigment depositing tendency. Backcross to blue birds can be black, blue, or ermine/paint.
