[READY TO SHIP!] Backcrossed Olive Egger Pullet (BC1, BC2, BC3, BC4 to Marans)
$100.00
Description
Young Pullets Ready for new coops!
July update! We hatch weekly during open season, March through October. We had an overhatch of backcrossed olive eggers some of these weeks in early 2025. These chicks went into our brooders and have been well loved and raised on clean non-gmo feed, then transferred to new tractors on fresh pasture where they can run and play and catch moths all day. Now that it’s past July 4th, we can get a good look at them and determine sex! We have all the BC OE pullets we need to fill our early presale folks, and we have about 7 young pullets that are not spoken for. They’ve gotten big, so we are back to our standard one pullet per box shipping. Please only check out for one pullet per transcation plus shipping, but we love local pickups!
Please read the rest of the listing for details, and look at our IG/FB for video and photos.

Backcrossed Olive Eggers (BC OE)
Our olive egger pens are under constant rotation. We’ve put our resident first gen olive egger birds (i.e. legbar under marans or ameraucana under marans) back under our heavy bloom Black Copper Marans males for a cross often called BC1 for short (first back cross). And we’ve put our resident BC1 birds back under Black Copper Marans for a second back cross (BC2). And so on and so forth— pretty much all of our olives are back under our Purple Copper heavy bloom line males.
Back crosses tend to deepen the olive egg color to a rich and darker olive, or can sometimes result in a mauve egger or brown layer if the blue gene is lost. Backcrossed egg color will generally intensify toward darker olive and bark colors when under a brown-pigment depositing male. Note: birds back crossed to our Black Copper Marans can sometimes look very similar to their pure-bred Black Copper Marans cousins, so you’ll want to be careful to not mix them up. You will see mostly black plumage with copper highlights and lacing across the breast in some cases. Most birds will have muffs and beards (a sign of their Ameraucana lineage), crests (a sign of legbar heritage), and feathered shanks (a sign of Marans heritage)— these traits are incompletely dominant and can pop up differently on each bird!

Note: local pickup is always preferred. Please choose local pickup at checkout for $0 shipping fee.
Shipping is expensive on juvenile birds, calculated by USPS Priority Express by weight. One larger pullet that is close to point of lay can fit in a special adult live bird box. Update: As of the Fourth of July we have a number of young/small pullets that we can ship two per box. We charge $150 flat rate which puts us close to cost on postage. If costs to your location are more we will cover them. Because only two young pullets can be shipped per box, please do not order more than 2 pullets per transaction! 😉
